For a front walk, a small pad and snow up to about 6 inches, a snow shovel is enough. For a full driveway, regular snow over 6 inches, or the berm the plow leaves at the end of the drive, a snow blower does the job faster and with far less strain.
If you are over 65, have a heart condition, or have not done hard physical work in a while, treat clearing snow as exertion rather than chores. A machine or a plow service is the safer choice — the risk is the effort, not the snow.
